The Detroit Tigers announced Wednesday morning that they have signed infielder Kevin McGonigle to an 8-year $150 million extension that runs through 2034. Locking up top prospects has been a trend this spring in the MLB, the Pirates signed their top prospect Konnor Griffin to a similar deal at 9-years $140 million. McGonigle has been off to a red-hot start, with a .311 batting average, .909 ops, and .417 on-base percentage. If McGonigle continues to live up to the hype and develops into the player the Tigers believe he can be, we may be looking back on this deal in 5-6 years and seeing how much of a deal the Tigers got for one of the better hitters in baseball.
