The Lions have just traded RB David Montgomery to the Houston Texans in exchange for a 4th round, 7th round pick, and OL Juice Scruggs. There has been rumors of a possible Montgomery trade for awhile this offseason, and it became reality Monday morning. Montgomery has been a crucial part of the Lions rushing attack since he came to Detroit in 2023. In his three seasons as a Lion, he rushed for 1,015 yards with 13 TDS, 775 yards with 12 TDs, and 716 yards and 8 TDs this past season.
Backup RB is now added to the list as a position of need for the Lions this offseason. Obviously offensive and defensive line depth are going to be a focal point of the offseason. Safety/db is also a position with questions with the injuries of Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph last season. This moves leaves the Lions with superstar Jahmyr Gibbs. Simone Vaki, and Jacob Saylors as RBs on the roster.
Montgomery was a fan favorite in Detroit, and one thing is certain, the fan base will be watching General Manager Brad Holmes moves in free agency and the draft very closely this spring.
